Recruiter FAQ

Below are some of the most commonly asked questions for Astronaut's recruiter experience.

What is Astronaut? (And what is it not?)

Astronaut is Q&A platform for fast, effective talent screening with video format, and MCQ (multiple choice question) format. Astronaut in not a Jobs board, and not ATS, but we have API that can integrate with other systems like these. Also, Astronaut is not a recruitment agency but recruitment agencies can use Astronaut.

Does Astronaut have a live video interview feature?

No. Our system uses “asynchronous video”, meaning that the system sends questions to the candidate and the candidate answers when they ready, not live. This allows the recruiter to invite many candidates at the same time, and get answers from them all very fast.

Why video?

CVs are very ineffective for effective screening, and are often full of exaggerated or false data. This why recruiters traditionally do time consuming and slow phone screening and initial screening face-to-face interviews that have high no-show rates. With video you can see the candidate’s facial expressions, and hear the clarity of their language skills and also see what they want to say as the answer to your question. Screen the people not CVs.

How to overcome candidate from cheating?

When you design your Q&A Session, you can create the pressure of a real interview with “1 attempt only” to ensure the candidates give a spontaneous response.

How do candidates answer the questions?

Candidates will receive the email inviting them to answer the questions in either the “Astronaut Q&A” iOS mobile app, the Android mobile app or their desktop web browser.

Do candidates like the experience of using Astronaut? Why?

Yes. Candidate love it because it saves them so much time, and it’s easy to use. They can can answer the questions at a time suitable to their schedule, with no travelling or waiting.

Can I use Astronaut for screening 1000’s of candidates in only a few days?

Yes, it doesn’t matter where your candidates are in the world, they can respond as long as they have internet access. There is no need for an appointment.

What if the internet connection is not very good?

With the iOS and Android mobile apps the internet is required to download the apps, and start the interview. However, if internet cuts out while the candidate is answering it won't be a problem because candidate answers are still in the mobile app and will be uploaded automatically when the candidates reconnect to the internet. For the candidates using their desktop web browser our system checked the interview speed and stability and if problematic the candidate will be informed to use either the iOS and Android mobile apps.

What is the candidate participation rate?

Due to Astronaut being much easier, faster and more time-saving than live calls and face-to-face interviews, the participation rate is always much higher than if conducted manually. Each case is different, and it is very normal for participation to be over 90%.

If candidates have question about Astronaut, who should they contact?

Candidates can either view http://astrnt.co/faq or send an email to help@astrnt.co. During office hour Team Astronaut support will respond fast, and often respond on weekends also.

I can’t install the Astronaut Q&A mobile app. Why?

The Astronaut Q&A app is available in both iOS (iOS 9 & above, including iPhone 5s) and Android (6.0 & above, with minimum 2GB RAM). If your phone doesn’t fulfill this requirement, we recommend doing the Q&A session on your desktop browser.

The Android app keeps crashing on my device. What should I do?

Sorry about that! On a very rare occasion we do encounter a problem in Android, particularly Nexus devices. If you experience this with your device, we encourage you to report it to us. To complete your Q&A session, we recommend using our website on your desktop.

In which web browsers can I do my Q&A session?

We support Google Chrome (recommended), Firefox, and Opera. Unfortunately, we do not currently support Safari, Microsoft Edge, and Internet Explorer. These browsers are still in the experimental stage since WebRTC support was only recently released in these systems. Our team is working hard to work out the bugs before we roll out support for these browsers.

I ran out of time but I haven’t completed all the questions. What do I do?

Don’t worry, all the answers you sent before the time run out are uploaded to our database. However, Team Astronaut don’t have any rights to give you a second chance. If you wish, you can contact your recruiter directly to request a second chance. If you think the timer ran out by mistake, please contact us at help@astrnt.co.

I got disconnected from the internet during my Q&A session. What should I do?

Unfortunately, if you are in the middle of your Q&A session, the timer will keep running even though you get disconnected. Please try to reconnect immediately.

If you lost connection after you have completed all the questions, no need to worry because your answers are still there—you just need to reconnect to the internet and the upload process will continue. Our system does spot checks of your speed to avoid this problem.

Have you received my answers?

At the end of your Q&A session, you should see an upload page that shows the status of your upload. Once all answers are uploaded, our system will send you a confirmation email. This means that your answers are safe and sound in our servers.

I’ve finished my Q&A session. How do I get my results? What do I do next?

Great job! For further information about your results and recruitment process, please contact your recruiter directly.

I received an email asking for my document. What do I do?

You received this email because the recruiter would like to have your document. Please read the email carefully to know what document is requested, and reply to the email with your document attached. The document must be in PDF format.
